N46°-E13°

Latitude 46° 03' 43" North - Longitude 13° 14' 32" East, these are the geographic coordinates for Udine. We are here. If someone should arrive here from anywhere else and ask about the place they have come to, how would we describe it? Where is here? Where are we? What is this “here” of ours, the place we live in?

Who can describe a place and its multi-faceted nature better than the people who live in it? Rita Maffei curates a collective experiment in participative art that seeks to involve anyone who feels they are a “citizen” of the place with the coordinates Latitude 46° 03’ 43” North – Longitude 13° 14’ 32” East, either because they were born there or came to it more recently, by choice or led by fate.
The sense of displacement we feel at this moment in history means we need to have reference points: are these geographical coordinates and maps, or gazes, stories, friendships, words and emotions?
N46°–E13° is an experiment in participatory art where numbers and statistics step aside to leave space for people and relationships. It is a chance for the citizens to interpret themselves in a web of micro-stories and fragments that make up a living, genuine portrait of the city, free from stereotypes.

Latitude 46° 03' 43" North - Longitude 13° 14' 32" East: these are the geographic coordinates for Udine. We are here. If someone should arrive here from another country, from the sea, the land or the heavens, from anywhere else, how would we describe the place they have come to? Where is here? Where are we? What is this “here” of ours, the place we happen to be or have chosen to live? Who are we?
This performance project is intended to be built together with you, the people who live, work, study and visit this city.
The sense of displacement we feel at this moment in history means we need to have reference points: are these geographical coordinates and maps, or gazes, stories, friendships, words and emotions?

The stage of N46° - E13° will offer space to everyone who wants to participate, from September to the 5th November. We will welcome all those who wish to be part of this mosaic of the city, who want to come and use any means or instrument to express this corner of the world where we spend our lives today. The people, not the history. NEVER rhetorical. Micro-stories of the everyday. We have nothing to prove. Only tell our tales and welcome others. Those who can help us and those we can help. Nonetheless, a person arriving. Who is like a child being born. Because all of us arrived here at one point. And the fortunes or misfortunes that brought us here (or brought us back here) are infinite.
We do not represent this city.
We do not represent the inhabitants of this city, nor are we in any way characters.
We are people, we represent no one but ourselves.
We have been told that someone is coming here, where we live.
We have been told that we can tell them something, about the place they are coming to, this city, and who we are.
This is why we are here.
To look into their eyes, reflect ourselves in them, and understand who we are.
Rita Maffei
