Winners of Premio Le Maschere del Teatro 2025 for 'Migliore autore di novità italiana': Enrico Baraldi and Nicola Borghesi for A place of safety
An Italian theatre company boards the ship of a German NGO, Sea-Watch, rescuing migrants in the Mediterranean Sea. They do not know what they are looking for, they only know that In that point of time and space, the heart of the Mediterranean in the heart of the hottest summer in history, attract them in an irresistible way. They will witness the rescue of a group of people along the deadliest migration route in the world. Starting from this experience they will try to tell on stage what happened, what they thought, what they discovered, about themselves and the world.
On stage, together with an actor who has seen what happens in the center of the Mediterranean with his own eyes, what remains of a journey when the journey is over: people, images, sounds, fears, enthusiasm, wounds.
The question that drives us, both artistic and political, is: how do you represent the unreasonable? Or, again, how do you stage what is obscene?
Right now that the Mediterranean risks becoming a blind spot of our consciousness, A place of safety, wants to be a spark of attention on the removed collective of our continent.
After all, an intimate discourse on what Europe would like to be, on what it is not, on what it could be.
Performance in Italian, English, Spanish and Portuguese with surtitles
