The 2021 edition of Dialoghi_Performing Arts Residencies at Villa Manin is a bridge that continues and advances the work that was begun in the three year period 2018-2020 with the project created by CSS Teatro stabile di innovazione del FVG in collaboration with ERPaC Ente Regionale per il Patrimonio Culturale del FVG, and with the support of MiC Ministero della Cultura, Regione Autonoma Friuli Venezia Giulia and the Fondazione Friuli.
Since 2015, the Dialoghi project has brought the performing arts to Villa Manin with a remarkable series of Residences (23 in the first three year period 2015-2017 and 55 from 2018 to 2021). The residencies beneficially transform the villa into a place for creation, study and experimentation, an opportunity to meet and share ideas and experiences between artists, residents and art lovers.

Emerging and established theatrical groups and performers from Italy and abroad are invited for intensive periods throughout the year to live and work in Passariano. During these residencies they are given total freedom to reflect, develop and test creative projects and explore performative and theoretical processes often through a multidisciplinary approach.

During the 1,170 days of Residencies over 6 years of the Dialoghi project, 510 artists were involved from 18 Countries – Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Estonia, France, Germany, Great Britain, Greece, Israel, Italy, Japan, Lebanon, Morocco, Portugal, Serbia, Slovenia, Spain – and 195 from Friuli Venezia Giulia.
This approach to residencies helps to develop creative trajectories, taking on physical, mental and social influences, inhabiting a place and bringing with them a powerful sense of community.

The selection of artists in 2021 was done through an open call aimed at artists residing or domiciled mainly in FVG, a second open call RichiedoAsilo Artistico 2021 (Request Artistic Asylum), in collaboration with In/Visible Cities/Contaminazioni digitali and PimOff -Milano), as well as through scouting and direct invitations. Each artist or team was given total freedom in the choice of theme and working methods for their residence, and anyone who felt they needed support in developing the creative project was assisted by mentoring from experts and professionals in the sector.

The artistic projects focused on the development of start ups for a new creative direction, added new aspects to a creative process that was already in progress, or provided an opportunity to test and deepen an artistic work.
During, or at the end of the residency, there were moments open to the public with creative activities, meetings and workshops.
