The Extraordinary Assembly, directed by Rita Maffei and featuring the Participatory Theatre format, brings together women (and those who identify as women) of all ages. These co-creators of the show, which was first performed in Udine in 2018, explore themes related to the female condition from 1968 to the present day. The show has also been performed in Thiene (Vicenza), Lecce, Bari and Rome. To mark the 50th anniversary of the referendum that overturned the divorce law proposed by Loris Fortuna from Udine, the show will reopen.
The anniversary will not only provide an opportunity to discuss divorce, but also to reflect on our ability to accept and embrace the possibility of parting ways without endangering our lives. It will also provide an opportunity to reflect on how we understand every kind of relationship, beyond the misunderstanding of possession.

What is participatory theatre?
No previous theatrical experience is necessary. During the workshop, participants will discover the forms and ways in which they can express themselves. Participatory theatre is not amateur theatre; no script will be provided to learn by heart and act out. Instead, it provides an opportunity for anyone to take part in the performances, either as an expert in everyday life, suitably trained during the workshop, or as a spectator.
Each participant brings their own life experience, thoughts and emotions to the stage. Participation is a social and artistic experience that one freely chooses to engage in.
